One trip to the studio. Everything your piece is due.

We keep care simple: one request, one parcel, one visit to the bench — we call it a Care Event. When your piece arrives it doesn't get one service; it gets every service it's due. A gold-plated ring a year into its life leaves the studio re-plated, hand-polished, prongs checked, clasp tightened — all in the same visit.

Every Care Event includes a professional clean and polish. On top of that, each piece gets what it's due: re-plating for gold-plated pieces once every 12 months, ring resizing within two sizes, and minor repairs — a loosened stone, a bent band, a worn clasp, a broken link, an earring post.

Which coverage is right for you?

Two ways to be covered: protect a single favorite, or put your whole collection — including the pieces you haven't met yet — under the studio's care.

Program terms — the plain-English version

What's covered: care comes as Care Events — one mail-in (or drop-off) visit to the studio, where your piece gets everything it's due: a professional clean and polish every time, re-plating for gold-plated pieces, ring resizing within two sizes, and minor repairs (a loosened stone, a bent band, a worn clasp, a broken link, an earring post).

How often: each gold-plated piece may be re-plated once every 12 months. Per-piece plans include one Care Event per piece per 12 months, with one resizing across the 3-year term. Memberships include three Care Events per membership year, resizing once every 12 months per ring, and any number of covered pieces in one parcel. Mailing a piece in and dropping it off at Savage Mill are the same thing — either way it's one Care Event, and for per-piece plans each 12-month period runs from the coverage start date. Care Events don't roll over. If a request goes beyond reasonable wear, we'll quote a fair repair instead.

How to enroll: tick "Add Jewelry Warranty" next to a piece in your cart, or add it from your Alumia account any time within 6 months (180 days) of your order date. Pieces enrolled after purchase wait 30 days before their first Care Event, and we look every mailed-in piece over at the bench before working on it — anything damaged beyond normal wear goes back unserviced, with return postage on you. Fair is fair in both directions.

How long it lasts: per-piece coverage lasts 3 years from its coverage start date. Membership coverage is active only while your subscription is in good standing — coverage and any waiting-period progress end if it's cancelled. The program is a service commitment from our working studio, not an insurance product.

Not covered: loss, theft, damage beyond reasonable wear, work by other jewelers, and pieces not made by Alumia. Non-jewelry items — ring sizers, care & polishing kits — and beaded bracelets and chokers aren't eligible for coverage. Coverage belongs to the purchaser of record and doesn't travel with a piece by resale. Gifts are the one exception: every gift order ships with a card carrying a single-use claim code. The person who received it makes a free Alumia account with their own email, enters the code at alumiadesignstudio.com/activate, and the piece — along with any coverage bought with it — becomes theirs. If the piece came without coverage, they can add it themselves within the original 180 days of the order. Lost or unreadable card? Write to the studio with the order number and we'll move it by hand. Claiming never shortens coverage and never moves a date. Shipping your piece to the studio is on you; the return trip is on us.

Shop products — 30-day free returns

Ready-to-wear jewelry (necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, and gift sets) and jewelry-care products may be returned within 30 days of delivery for a refund of the item price.

Condition: items must be returned unworn and unused, in their original condition and original packaging, with any certificates, cards, and gifts-with-purchase included.

Return shipping: the buyer is responsible for return shipping costs. We recommend a tracked, insured service — Alumia is not responsible for returns lost or damaged in transit to us.

Loss in value: the buyer is responsible for any loss in value if an item is not returned in its original condition (for example, signs of wear, damage, alteration, or missing packaging). Alumia may reduce the refund to reflect that loss in value.

Refunds: issued to the original payment method within 5–10 business days after we receive and inspect the return. Original shipping charges are non-refundable.

Promotional codes & gift cards: if a promotional code was used on your order, your refund will reflect the price you actually paid after the discount — promotional codes are one-time use and can't be restored or exchanged for credit once redeemed. If part of your order was paid with an Alumia gift card, that portion will always come back to you as a new gift-card code, with any remaining balance refunded to your original payment method. When you return one piece from a larger order, your discount stays with the pieces you keep, and we refund the discounted price of the piece you return.

Personalized & final-sale items: engraved or personalized pieces and anything marked “final sale” are not eligible for return under this policy (see Custom Orders).

Pieces you bought as a gift: a gift is returned by the person who received it, not by the person who paid — see Returning a gift below.

Premier — one-of-a-kind pieces

Each Premier piece is individually designed and made, and is sold only once — it cannot simply be restocked.

Premier pieces may be returned within 30 days of delivery but are subject to a 20% restocking fee, which is deducted from the refund. The original-condition, buyer-paid return shipping, and loss-in-value terms above also apply.

Any custom or personalized element added to a Premier piece is non-refundable (see Custom Orders).

Custom orders & commissions

Bespoke pieces are designed and handcrafted specifically for you and cannot be resold, so they are handled differently from shop products.

Non-refundable deposit: custom work is confirmed with a 50% deposit after you approve the sketch and quote. This deposit is non-refundable — it reserves your production slot and covers design time and the materials ordered for your piece.

Final sale: once production begins, custom orders are final sale and are not eligible for return, exchange, or refund, except where a piece arrives damaged or materially different from the approved design (see below).

Design consultation: the $30 design consultation fee is non-refundable, but is credited in full toward your final piece if you proceed.

Approvals: you approve the design sketch, materials, and quote before any work begins. We build only what you approve; changes requested after approval may affect the price and timeline.

Returning a gift

The rule: a gift is returned by the person who received it — never by the person who bought it, who no longer has the piece. It comes back as Alumia store credit to the recipient, never as a refund to the buyer's card. And the person who sent it is never notified: not that a return was started, not that it arrived, not that credit was issued.

Received an Alumia piece as a gift? Return it through the Return Center's gift option with the order number and the ZIP code it was delivered to. The ZIP is the one your parcel came to; the order number is the one thing you may need to ask the giver for. (The card in your box carries a claim code, not an order number — that code registers the piece to your account, it is not what the Return Center needs.)

Your store credit is emailed to you as a gift-card code within 5–10 business days of your return reaching the studio — so the gift stays a gift. The credit never expires. The same condition, window, and return-shipping terms as the category above apply.

Damaged, defective, or incorrect items

This applies to every category above. If your piece arrives damaged, defective, or materially not as described, contact the studio within 7 days of delivery with photos. We will repair, replace, or refund the item at our discretion, at no cost to you — including return shipping. This does not affect any statutory rights you may have as a consumer.

Ordinary wear over time is covered separately under the Alumia Jewelry Warranty, not this return policy.

How to start a return

Email the studio (or use the contact form) with your order number, the item(s) you'd like to return, and the reason. We'll confirm eligibility and send return instructions and the studio address. Please do not ship anything back before we confirm your return.

Our materials

Sterling silver (.925): solid precious metal, polished bright. It can tarnish naturally over time — a quick polish brings it right back.

Gold-plated silver & brass: 24k bright gold plating applied in the studio. Warm and rich — treat it kindly and it lasts; the warranty re-plates it when it doesn't.

Solid gold: heirloom-grade, hallmarked. It resists tarnish and can be worn daily for a lifetime.

Stones: genuine gemstones (garnet, moonstone, onyx, birthstones) set by hand. Everything is nickel-free and kind to sensitive skin.

Daily care

💧 Last on, first off: put jewelry on after lotion and perfume; take it off before swimming, showering, and sleeping.

✨ Wipe after wear with a soft cloth — skin oils are the main cause of dulling.

📦 Store dry and separate — the pouch or box it arrived in is ideal; it prevents scratches and slows tarnish.

🧼 Deep clean: lukewarm water, a drop of mild soap, a soft brush — never harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners on plated pieces.

When a piece needs more than home care, the Alumia Jewelry Warranty Program re-plates, re-polishes, and repairs it in the studio.

These terms govern your use of alumiadesignstudio.com and anything you buy from us. Alumia Design Studio is a jewelry studio and storefront at Savage Mill in Savage, Maryland ("Alumia", "we", "us"). By placing an order or using the site, you agree to what follows. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

The pieces we sell

Hila designs every piece and carves the original model by hand. Production pieces are then cast from that model in sterling silver or gold-plated sterling silver, and each one is finished, set and polished by hand in our Maryland studio. Because of that, small variations between pieces are normal and are not defects.

Gemstones are natural unless a listing says otherwise, and natural stones vary in colour, inclusion and pattern. Where a piece is offered with a lab-created stone, the listing says so plainly. Screens differ, so colours on your device are an approximation rather than a match.

Many pieces are made to order. Where a listing shows a lead time, that is our honest working estimate and not a guarantee of a delivery date.

Prices, availability and errors

All prices are in U.S. dollars and may change at any time before you order. Availability is not guaranteed until your order is accepted, and a listing may sell out between your adding it to the bag and checking out.

Occasionally a price or a description is published in error. Where an error is obvious, we may cancel the affected order and refund you in full rather than honour it. We will always tell you rather than ship something different.

Placing an order

Your order is an offer to buy. Our confirmation email acknowledges that we received it; a contract forms when we accept the order, and we may decline or cancel an order for any lawful reason — including stock, suspected fraud, a pricing error, or an address we cannot ship to. If we cancel, you are refunded in full.

We currently ship within the United States only. For anywhere else, write to the studio and we will quote you directly.

Payment and tax

Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. By paying you confirm you are authorised to use the payment method.

Maryland sales tax is calculated and collected at checkout where it applies.

Shipping and delivery

Shipping options and any free-shipping threshold are shown at checkout. Delivery estimates are estimates; once a parcel is with the carrier its timing is outside our control.

Title and risk of loss pass to you on delivery to the address you gave us. Please check that address before you pay — we cannot recover a parcel delivered correctly to the wrong address you supplied. If a parcel is lost or arrives damaged in transit, contact the studio and we will help you resolve it with the carrier.

Returns and refunds

Our Return Policy forms part of these terms and sets out the rules in full. In summary: ready-to-wear pieces may be returned within 30 days of delivery, unworn and in their original condition and packaging; return shipping is paid by the buyer; refunds go to the original payment method within 5 to 10 business days of our receiving and inspecting the return; original shipping charges are not refunded; and a refund may be reduced to reflect any loss in value where a piece comes back worn, altered or damaged.

One-of-a-kind Premier pieces may be returned within 30 days subject to a 20% restocking fee. Engraved, personalised and final-sale items are not returnable. Custom work is covered separately below.

A piece received as a gift is returned by the person who received it, never by the person who paid for it, and comes back as Alumia store credit to the recipient. This is how the Return Center is built, not merely how we prefer it.

Custom and commissioned work

Custom pieces are designed and handcrafted for one person and cannot be resold, so they work differently. You approve the sketch, the materials and the quote before any work starts. Work is confirmed with a 50% deposit, which is non-refundable because it reserves your production slot and covers design time and materials.

Once production begins, custom orders are final sale and are not eligible for return, exchange or refund, except where a piece arrives damaged or materially different from what you approved. Changes requested after approval may affect both price and timeline. The design consultation fee is non-refundable but is credited in full toward your piece if you proceed.

The jewelry warranty

The Alumia Jewelry Warranty is a service commitment from our studio — polishing, re-plating and minor repairs on covered pieces — and is not insurance. It does not cover loss, theft, damage beyond normal wear, or work carried out by anyone else. Its own terms and prices are set out on that page and apply to coverage you buy.

Gift cards, credit and promotional codes

Alumia gift cards and store credit never expire, are redeemable only against our own products, cannot be exchanged for cash except where the law requires it, and are not reloadable. Treat a code like cash: we cannot replace one that is lost or shared.

Promotional codes are single-use unless stated otherwise, cannot be combined, may be restricted to a first order, and carry no cash value. We may void a code that has been duplicated, resold or obtained in a way it was not offered. Where a discount was applied to an order, a refund reflects the price you actually paid.

Workshops, lessons and events

Seats at workshops and lessons are ticketed through Eventbrite, and Eventbrite's own terms apply to that purchase. Cancellation and transfer windows are shown on each listing. Workshops involve hand tools and a bench; you take part at your own risk, must follow the studio's safety instructions, and should tell us in advance about anything that affects your ability to participate safely. Participants under 18 need a guardian's consent.

Your account

You are responsible for the accuracy of what you put in your account and for keeping your password to yourself. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access. We may suspend or close an account used for fraud, abuse, or anything that breaks these terms.

Our designs

Alumia's designs, models, photographs, text and branding belong to Alumia Design Studio and are protected by copyright and trademark law. Buying a piece gives you the piece; it does not give you a licence to reproduce the design. Casting, moulding, scanning, 3D-printing or otherwise copying a piece for resale or manufacture is not permitted. You may photograph and share pieces you own, and we would love it if you did.

Reviews, photos and anything else you post

When you submit a review, a photograph or a comment, you keep ownership of it and grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to display and use it in connection with the studio and its marketing, including on this site and in email. You confirm the content is yours to give and that anyone identifiable in it has agreed.

We may decline or remove content that is unlawful, abusive, misleading, or unrelated to the piece. We do not edit a review to change its meaning or its rating.

Acceptable use

Please do not use the site to break the law, to interfere with how it runs, to scrape or harvest it at scale, to attempt access you have not been given, or to impersonate somebody else.

Third-party services

The store runs on services we do not control: Stripe for payments, Supabase for accounts and data, Klaviyo for email, Shippo for shipping labels, Eventbrite for workshop ticketing, and analytics and advertising providers. Each handles data under its own terms and our instructions — see our Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for the content or practices of any site we link to.

Disclaimers

Except where these terms, the return policy or the warranty say otherwise, and except for rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded, the site and everything on it are provided "as is". We do not promise the site will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Our pieces are nickel-free. If you have a known metal or stone sensitivity, please check the materials on the listing before you order, and stop wearing a piece and seek advice if you react to it. Jewelry needs care: follow the guidance on our Materials & Care page, because damage from misuse, accident or ordinary neglect is not a fault in the piece.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Alumia is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost profits or lost data, arising from your use of the site or from a piece you bought. Our total liability for any claim connected with an order is limited to the amount you paid for that order.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.

Indemnity

You agree to cover us against claims and costs arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of the site, or content you submit.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.

If something goes wrong, write to the studio first — most problems are solved in one email, and we would rather fix it than argue about it. If we cannot resolve it within 30 days, the state and federal courts located in Maryland have exclusive jurisdiction, and you and Alumia each consent to that venue. Nothing stops either of us from bringing a claim in small-claims court.

General

If any part of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours if the business is sold. These terms, together with the return policy, the warranty terms and the privacy policy, are the whole agreement between us about the site and your order.

We may update these terms from time to time. The version published here on the day you order is the version that applies to that order, and the date at the top of this page tells you when it last changed.

This policy describes how Alumia Design Studio ("Alumia", "we") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use alumiadesignstudio.com, shop with us, or visit our studio at Savage Mill, Maryland.

Information we collect

Account information: when you create an account — with an email and password, or by signing in with Google — we collect your email address and name (and, from Google sign-in, your basic Google profile name and email). We never see or store your Google password.

Order information: when you purchase, we collect your name, email, shipping address, phone number, and details of the items you ordered. Payment card details are entered directly with our payment processor, Stripe — Alumia never sees or stores your full card number.

Email signups: if you join our email list (for example, for a welcome discount), we collect your email address and your marketing preferences.

Analytics & device data: like most sites we collect usage data — pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type — through cookies and similar technologies, to understand how the site is used and improve it.

How we use it

We use your information to: fulfill and ship your orders and provide receipts and order updates; run your account, favorites, and order history; provide warranty, return, and repair services; send marketing emails you've opted into (you can unsubscribe anytime); answer your messages; prevent fraud; and improve the site and our products.

We do not sell your personal information.

Third-party services

We share data only with the service providers that run the store, and only what each needs to do its job:

Supabase — hosts our database and authentication (accounts, orders, favorites). Stripe — processes payments and subscriptions. Klaviyo — sends our marketing and transactional emails. Google — optional Google sign-in and Google Analytics usage measurement. Shippo — creates shipping labels and tracking for your orders. Vercel — hosts the website.

Each provider processes your data under its own privacy policy and our instructions. We may also disclose information when the law requires it.

Google sign-in

If you choose "Continue with Google", Google shares your name and email address with us to create or access your Alumia account. We use this information only for authentication and the account features described above; we do not request access to anything else in your Google account, and we do not transfer Google user data to third parties except the infrastructure providers listed here.

Cookies

We use cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember your cart and favorites, and measure site traffic (Google Analytics, and ad-platform pixels where enabled). You can control cookies through your browser settings; the cart and sign-in may not work with all cookies blocked.

Retention

We keep account and order records for as long as your account is active and as needed for warranty service, tax, and legal requirements. Email-list data is kept until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is retained per Google Analytics' standard retention settings.

Your rights & choices

You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account and data (we may retain what the law requires, such as tax records of completed orders). You can unsubscribe from marketing email via the link in any message, and disconnect Google sign-in at any time from your Google account's security settings.

Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/UK or certain U.S. states), you may have additional statutory privacy rights; we honor applicable rights requests.

Children

Our site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
